Best. Husband. Ever!

This morning when hubby got home from work he carried in the big piece of plexiglas that he had gotten at Lowe's on his way home and went right out to the multipurpose room (sewing/crafting/storage/junk/etc..) and got to work on finishing up the modifications for my sewing table.  This is what he looks like, doing just that:

He worked on it and worked on it, getting the machine to fit in the hole and sit at the right height and then cutting the plexiglas (mistakes were made but we both learned a lot from this process) and getting it all to fit and come together.  Here is a series of pictures of that:

Making the height in the hole right.
The machine is in!  Oh wait, gotta measure and cut the hole in the plexiglas...

This last one is cutting the hole for the cords to go through.

We learned that for the next machine that will go in this table we'll have to get new plexiglas so it will fit and be custom for that machine and we will use the dremel tool to cut the hole in it for the machine.  There are a couple of small places in the plexiglas where it broke in the wrong place but for now we fixed that with clear packing tape and it is still smooth and will work great.  I sat and sewed for a bit and it is so much nicer than sewing with the machine bed 3+ inches above the table top.  When I learned to sew it was on machines that were in cabinets and I wished that the whole time I was using the Brother that I had that I had a cabinet for it.

I'm going to bind and free motion quilt a baby quilt tonight and see how I like it.  I can not imagine that I won't like it.  I am SO happy with how it turned out for not knowing what we were doing when we started, and the next time we have to do it we know what mistakes not to make.  I am just as pleased as punch!

And so I leave you with this reiteration:

Best. Husband. EVER!

He is what I would call a "keeper". How nice to have a table so big and smooth. Hi Sami I'm a fellow bee and I have become one of your followers. Have fun creating.

Thanks everyone for your comments. It is a huge difference to have the machine even with the table. I started really learning how to free motion quilt last night on a baby quilt top that I've had around for ages. I never really tried that hard to FMQ before because it seemed so awkward. It still isn't very pretty, but the quilt will be warm for someone as long as they don't mind wonky quilting. LOL! And yes, he is a keeper!

Not really that hard Layne (I say that because I only 'helped' and didn't do the hard stuff). The most important thing we figured out is that you shouldn't cut the rectangle in the plexiglas where you put it over the machine once it is in place with the plexiglas cutter. Next time we'll use a dremel tool to cut it out then there won't be spots where the glas breaks wrong.

@ Sunni, he smiled when I told him you said that. He's off on the weekends! ;)

And when you need to use your free arm, how does that work? does your machine rise up, or is that a problem? Or maybe you never use the free arm?

Just beimng nosy really. Table looks great.

If I need to use the free arm I'll drag out my old/backup machine. I rarely have to use it though. :)
