Bloggers' Quilt Festival

Amy's Creative Side

After surfing around some of the other linked blogs, I decided to go ahead and enter.  A lot of people have made things that are so pretty, and even though my quilt isn't very spring like (it is rather dark... it is called Gothic Nines after all) I am still completely in love with it!

This quilt started out as a pile of fabric that I had bought on seperate occassions just because I liked it.  I had no idea what I would do with such dark fabrics but I liked looking at them, and sometimes, at least for me, that is enough.

I saw several Disappearing 9 Patch quilts and decided to make one, but I had no idea what fabric I would use.  My husband is always telling me "Use the fabric you have!" everytime I bring more fabric home, so I decided that this time I would use only what I had in my stash.  I laid out the main fabric which was  Jinny Beyer Favorites for RJR and then the other dark one with the pink vines is Woodrow Studio's "Klimt Collection".  The white fabric is a random Blank print that I had laying around.

I like this particular quilt so much because it is the first one I've decided to keep in years!  It is the biggest quilt that I've quilted myself.  Usually anything over about 60 inches I would send out to get it quilted, but since hubby insisted on getting me a new sewing machine with a larger harp space I find that I am more willing to tackle the larger projects now.  This quilted ended up about 76 inches square.

Since I finished it, it has only been off of my bed once, when I changed bedding.  As soon as it was out of the dryer it went right back on the bed!

I now have confidence to quilt larger things myself and I have an actual queen sized quilt in the works right now that I intend to quilt myself.

Way to go on quilting it all by yourself! I still haven't ventured into quilting anything that large yet. :)

Happy Quilt Festival!

It looks great, the quilting is wonderful! Doesn't it feel good to use up some of the fabric you already have, especially when it turns out as good as this one did?
