A Lovely Year Of Finishes: January Goal Setting

Melissa of Sew Bittersweet Designs  invited me a few days ago to join A Lovely Year Of Finishes on Flickr.  I figured since I have nearly 50 (yes, you read that right) UFOs in bins and laying on work surfaces in the sewing area that maybe this was the most important group that I would join this year.

My goal going into this year is to finish UFOs.  I have a LONG list of new things I want to make, but I told myself that this year I am going to finish things and if I can get the UFO list down to 20 I can think about adding a couple of the things from my "must make this one day" list.

My UFOs are small and large so my "big plan" before this group came along was to pick one larger thing (50 inches square or bigger) and two smaller things (49 inches square or smaller) each month from the UFOs and commit to finishing them.  I also have Bee and Round Robin commitments each month but they usually only take me a day or two to complete once I figure out what I want to do for them.

Without further ado, the project that I chose for my first month finish is the Secret quilt that I am making for some friends.  If you know me personally and are reading this, no, this quilt is not for you! (It might be.. but I'll never tell until I'm on your doorstep delivering!)

I used a Fanciful Feline panel which I fussy cut, some fabric that is from another panel of chicken fabric to border those then some Flutter for the squares.  I'm working borders now to make it at least 65 inches square, though I will probably go bigger.  The goal is to finish this top and FMQ it, bind it and deliver it by the end of the month. 30 days!  I can do it!

So that is what I'm working on for ALYOF.

My other two must finish projects this month are my Daughter-in-Law's case for her tablet computer which just needs binding, putting together and the buttons:

The third is my daughter's Kindle Fire cover.  She said she wants butterflies so I made her help me pick the fabric for it this morning:

Other things:
Catch up on Easy Street (I'm 3 clues behind)
Bee and Round Robin commitments (Stash Bee, Make It Modern, Quilt U Be Mine, so far)
Charity stuff

Looks like I'm going to be busy!

Hope your Year is starting out right!  This is the year I get healthy and get off high blood pressure meds.  If I believe it and put in the work then it will happen!

What a great set of goals. Thanks for joining us. I can't wait to see the finished quilt - although you can tell it's going to be awesome already!

I LOVE the fabrics you used together for your quilt that's the January goal. That is just gorgeous!
