Tonia Made Me Do It

When I was a kid, I'm talking from birth here, my Mom was best friends with Layne's Mom.  Layne and I were the same age, actually he is a couple months older I think.  Anyway... our families hung out together ALL the time when we were kids.

When we were about 8 or 9 they moved away across the mountains.  Our Moms kept in touch sort of and when Layne started driving he'd make the trip over the mountains once a summer and drop in to say hi.

When I was 19ish we moved and I never saw Layne again.  Just recently, a year or so ago we reconnected on Facebook and through him I met his wife.  We haven't seen each other face to face for over 25 years but I still consider us friends even sort of like siblings our families were that close, and I have a GREAT new friend in his wife.  She is a quilter too and her name is Tonia.

Tonia and I have become great friends through Facebook and it will be great this summer when we meet up with them on our vacation to the area where they live.

If you read my blog at all you know I'm a "wing it" sort of quilter.  I just do "whatever" and don't follow patterns.  I have a few things cut out from patterns but they haven't even started getting sewed yet.  Well.....

Tonia found this and tagged me in a post about it this morning.  How could I say no once I saw how cute this pattern is?  The answer is I couldn't so Tonia and I are doing a quilt along together!  The pattern ends up 60" x 60" but I know myself to well and I know I'll either add more rows or borders to make it bigger.

I am going to only use stash and I'll be working to keep up with the Quilt Along so today I'll pull the fabric I want to use and get it cut up.  Likely my quilt will be scrappy autumn colors since I have a lot of brown and gold and then the background will likely be natural muslin so my quilt will look really old fashioned-y.  The pattern is free so even if you don't do the quilt along, if you like the pattern you can snag it. :D

What a great story and I just printed the pattern. I bought Lizzie House's constellation line to make my daughter a quilt so maybe this is kismet.
