Michele over at Quilts From My Crayon Box had this great idea for a round robin. How it worked was we each made a center block that was 6.5 inches and then for the next few months our block got sent to a new person in our group and they added a border up to 2 inches finished. You could basically do whatever you wanted for borders as long as you only added 2 inches to each side.
We started the end of March and our "blocks" have finally come home to the Maker of the Middle. (I coined that term myself.) I enjoyed it so much that when Michele decided to do a Valentine Mystery Round Robin I joined up for that too. She is also going to start a new one in early 2013!! You can bet I'll be on board for that one too!
So without further ado..
I was in two groups, group #3 and group #4. Sadly there was a hitch in the giddy-up in group #4 and I won't get that mini back for a while but Janet sent me a picture of it! I LOVE it!!
I did get my mini back from group #3 and I LOVE it too!!
Back in February of this year I was the Queen Bee in Stash Bee and I requested red and black Pineapple blocks. I love all of the blocks I got but apparently I am not a great tutorial writer because only a couple of the blocks came back to me the size that my tutorial block was.
I've been holding on to the blocks waiting to decide what to do with them since they are all different sizes. As I was contemplating I thought why not just add to the smaller pineapples to bring them up to the right size and slightly cut down the ones that are to large. Sure, the quilt won't be exactly "perfect" but to me the beauty in the quilts I make are the imperfections. Then I thought, heck, why not make a big bed sized quilt out of the two MMMRR tops that I'll be getting and the pineapples!
Even though the second mini top is not back yet, I think you can sort of get an idea of where this is going to go from this picture where I spread everything out on my queen sized bed. Ignore the blue bowl and pitcher quilt... that open spot is where the other mini will go. I'm sure I'll have to add a bit to the minis to get everything to match up but seeing this inspires me to make sure I get this quilt made before the cold weather is over so I can sleep under it.
Well? What do you think? Is my plan a good one?
Now for the best part! Below is a list of all of the other quilty people who participated in this round robin. Everyone will be putting their own reveal posts up at just after mid-night where they live on the morning of November 19, 2012 so I plan to hop around to all the blogs Monday morning while I have my coffee and see all the pretties. A couple of them hadn't received their tops back yet but they are fingers crossed that they will be in Monday's mail so if you want to see them all and they haven't posted their reveal yet make sure to check back. :D

Very cool and I think it is going to one very awesome quilt. I can't pick which mini I like better. They both are great.
Oh dear, I'm glad you figured out a way to use those pineapple blocks! Red and black look great together.
Wow they look great will you put both of the minis in with the pineapple blocks?
how cool you are turning it into a LARGE quilt
Very neat!
Awesome!!! I love the look of what's going together on that pineapple blocks quilt. Can't wait to see what you do!
Oh my - how interesting that you started with two blocks almost exactly the same and look at the different ways they went! They are both fabulous and paired with your pineapples they are going to be fantastic!
